Web design and audit scheduling software for an Irish certification body that now takes applications online
Businesses can now apply to OACI online instead of emailing Word forms back and forth. The new homepage loads its main content in about a second, where the old site took almost five.
Where it started
When OACI came to us, their website was underselling the thing that sets them apart. They are accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board and registered as a Notified Body, a standing no consultancy can simply claim for itself. Yet the old site was slow, much of its copy hadn't been touched in years, and a buyer comparing technical certification routes found little to go on. Behind the scenes, audit planning depended on someone remembering who was free.
What we did and why
Service pages a buyer can compare side by side
We rebuilt the site so every service and sector page answers the same questions in the same order, from what the standard covers to the questions buyers usually ask. Whether a buyer needs EN 1090 for structural steel or ISO 9001 for quality management, the answers sit in the same place on every page, so comparing routes is easy. The accreditation is stated plainly from the homepage down, because it's what sets OACI apart.
Editing screens designed for the office
A site only stays current if the people who know the business can edit it, so we designed the editing screens around the office staff who would use them. They follow the layout of each page, with images shown as thumbnails and essential fields that can't be left blank. OACI now change the copy on almost every page themselves, without waiting on a developer.
Applications online instead of by email
Applying used to mean downloading a Word document, filling it in and emailing it back, and the office then chased whatever was missing before a quote could go out. We replaced it with three online forms that match the original documents field by field. Questions only appear when they apply, so transfer questions show only for a business that already holds accredited certification. Every application reaches the office as the same clear PDF, and the applicant gets a confirmation email.
A scheduling app instead of a general-purpose calendar
Audits were planned in a general-purpose calendar, and nothing stopped one landing on a day an auditor had already set aside. We built OACI a bespoke audit scheduling app where staff see every audit on a calendar and move one to another day or auditor by dragging it. Each auditor books their own time off in their own view, so nobody can be booked onto a day they've blocked. Every Monday morning the office gets an email summary of the week's audits.
What changed
A buyer visiting the new homepage now sees its main content in about a second rather than almost five, so the first impression matches the accreditation behind it.
What this means for your business
If accreditation is what sets you apart, say so plainly on every page and make sure the site loads fast enough to be taken seriously. A website only stays accurate if your team finds it easy to edit, so the editing screens deserve as much thought as the pages your customers see. When scheduling depends on someone remembering who is free, letting each person block their own time off stops double bookings before they happen.
