Everblue speeds up WordPress, Shopify and custom websites for businesses in Ireland, the UK and the US. Slow pages lose visitors before they see what you sell, and Google takes page speed into account when it ranks sites. The causes range from oversized images and plugin bloat to missing caching and underpowered hosting, and our guide on why a website is slow and how to fix it explains the most common ones.

How much faster will my site be?

We won't promise a number, because it comes down to what's slowing the site down now. A site held back by huge images can improve a lot, while one on overloaded hosting may need to move before code fixes make much difference. We measure before and after so you can see exactly what changed.

Is it right for you

Who this is for, and when we'd suggest something else

A good fit if

  • Your site feels slow on a phone, or PageSpeed Insights scores it in the red.
  • You're paying for ads or SEO and don't want slow pages wasting the visitors they bring.
  • Your site runs on WordPress or Shopify and has collected plugins and apps over the years.

When we'd point you elsewhere

  • If the site needs rebuilding anyway, speeding up the old one means paying twice. We'd point you towards a new site instead.
  • If your pages already load quickly and pass Core Web Vitals, we'll tell you speed isn't the problem and look at what stops visitors enquiring instead.
What's included

What our website speed optimisation covers

Speed audit

We measure the site with the tools Google uses, including PageSpeed Insights and Lighthouse, and list the problems in order of impact.

Images

Images are compressed, converted to modern formats like WebP and AVIF, and served at the right size for each screen.

Code clean-up

We remove unused code and plugins, stop scripts from holding up the page, and minify CSS and JavaScript by stripping out what browsers don't need.

Caching and CDN

We set up caching so repeat visits load faster, and put the site on Cloudflare's CDN, a network that serves your pages from a location near each visitor.

Core Web Vitals

These are Google's measures of loading speed, responsiveness and layout stability (LCP, INP and CLS). We work through the fixes that improve them and show you the before and after.

Server and hosting

On WordPress and other self-hosted sites, we tune PHP and the database and check the hosting against the traffic you get. If the hosting is the bottleneck, we'll recommend a change.

Process

What happens, step by step

01

Measure

We benchmark speed and Core Web Vitals on mobile and desktop, so there is a clear before picture.

02

Fix images and code

We compress and resize images, remove what isn't needed and stop scripts from holding up the page.

03

Set up caching

We configure browser, server and CDN caching so pages are served quickly without extra load on your server.

04

Tune the server

We check the hosting, PHP version and database, and fix or recommend changes where they are slowing things down.

05

Test and compare

We test forms, checkout and layouts on phones and desktops to make sure nothing has broken, then measure again and show you the difference.

FAQ

Website speed questions

If your question isn't answered here, email [email protected] and we'll get back to you.

What are Core Web Vitals?

They're Google's three measures of how a page feels to use. LCP is how quickly the main content appears, INP is how quickly the page responds when you tap or click, and CLS is whether things jump around while it loads. Google uses them when ranking pages.

Will the changes break anything?

They shouldn't, because we test forms, checkout, menus and animations on phones and desktops after the changes, before we call the job finished.

Do you guarantee a PageSpeed score?

No. Scores also depend on your hosting, your theme and third-party scripts like chat widgets and booking tools, some of which we can't change. The speed audit shows which of those are holding the score back.

Will the site slow down again?

It can, as new images, plugins and scripts get added. We can look after the site on an ongoing basis, or show your team what to watch for.
