Case study

Web design for an Irish car sales business, with listings that fill themselves in from the registration

Type in a registration and the listing fills itself in, so the team only has to add photos and a price.

Where it started

Every car JTK Motors listed for sale online meant typing out its make, model, year, engine size and the rest of its specification by hand. Then came the photos, and once the car sold, someone had to remember to take the listing down. Each hand-typed specification took time and was another chance for a typing error. JTK Motors, the car sales arm of JTK, runs alongside its performance tuning business, and the team wanted to manage its own stock online without outside help or technical knowledge.

What we did and why

Let the registration fill in the details

We built the listing form around the car's registration rather than a blank page of fields. The site looks the registration up on MotorCheck.ie and fills in the make, model, year, engine size and other details. That information is already on record for every car, and on websites for car dealers, retyping it only adds time and mistakes. The team adds the photos and a price, and the listing is ready.

Listings the whole team can manage

Anyone on the team can add, update or remove a listing without technical knowledge, so keeping the stock online current doesn't depend on an outside developer. When a car sells, it comes down with one click, so the site doesn't keep showing cars that have already gone.

What changed

JTK Motors now keeps its stock online up to date itself. A new listing takes far less time than typing out every specification by hand, and the car sales site sits alongside the rest of JTK's online presence. We also built JTK's workshop job system, which has since become MotorWorks garage management software.

What this means for your business

If your team retypes information that's already on record somewhere, such as a car's specification, a lookup that fills it in saves time on every listing and cuts out typing errors. A website your own staff can update without help is far more likely to stay current than one that needs a developer for every change. When a business has two sides, like tuning and car sales, their websites should sit alongside each other so customers see one brand.
